•A memory of your time at Oxy or a word of advice.
Examples include:
- a moment when you realized that your life had changed
- a memory of an important world event while at Oxy
- meaningful moments with a special person, or friend
- memories of certain places or buidings on the grounds
- things you did then and would do differently now (or not)
• A short quotation or aphorism including the author
• A song that reminds you of your years at Occidental.
Simply hum the melody or chorus.
You can also record your audio story using the memo application on your iPhone or other smartphone and send it to blouchou@oxy.edu
Submissions will accepted through this fall and can be as short or as long as you wish.
The Oxy Olive Grove Sound Art Project
To Commemorate
Occidental College’s
125th Anniversary
The Oxy community is invited to share their memories, insights, college anecdotes, or hum a favorite melody for an audio art project by Oxy composer and professor Bruno Louchouarn.
The sound art will be installed in the Olive Grove on campus this fall.
The Art (and Sound) of the Unexpected
This commissioned sound art project will draw upon the rich symbolism of the olive tree as well as the values and contributions of the extended Occidental community to compose an environmental artwork that will reflect their presence within the meditative space of Occidental College’s olive grove.
Alumni, students, staff, and faculty are invited to contribute short memories,aphorisms, advice, as well as singing. With these the artist will create a very long “sound ribbon” made up of multiple voices that will come down from speakers in the tree canopies; a collective memory of recorded experiences that will unfold as an open-ended invitation to ponder about our community.
